Snowpane – Datenschutz / Privacy
1. Verantwortlicher und Kontakt
Paneworks
2. Was Snowpane auf deinem PC verarbeitet
3. Was Snowpane auf deinem PC speichert
- Einstellungen (
Schreib dazu an paneworks.help@outlook.com.
Privacy policy for Snowpane
In short: Snowpane does not collect any data about you. The app makes no internet connections, contains no ads, no analytics or tracking tools, and needs no account. Whatever the app processes stays on your PC.
1. Controller and contact
Paneworks
Email: paneworks.help@outlook.com
Use this address for privacy questions and for help with the app. There is no data protection officer; we are not required to appoint one.
2. What Snowpane processes on your PC
So that snow can settle on your windows without getting in your way, Snowpane reads while it runs:
- position, size and visibility of open windows and the taskbar, and the technical window type (for example to recognize the taskbar),
- number, resolution and scaling of your displays, and the name of your graphics card,
- whether an app is running fullscreen, whether the screen is locked or off, and whether a Remote Desktop session is active (snow then pauses),
- whether your PC runs on mains power or battery and whether energy saver is on,
- the Windows settings "High contrast", "Show animations" and the display language,
- your PC's clock (for the time of day of the weather).
This information is used in memory only and is never transmitted. Snowpane does not read window titles or window contents, does not capture the screen and does not read keystrokes. For the Ctrl+Alt+S shortcut, Snowpane registers only this one key combination with Windows.
3. What Snowpane stores on your PC
- Settings (
settings.json,wetter.json): your choices in the settings window, for example weather, battery, language and your answer to the question on first start. - Log and crash report (
protokoll.txt,fehler.txt): technical information for troubleshooting, such as start and end times, app version, Windows version and language, graphics card, displays and error messages. A crash report may contain folder paths that include your Windows user name. Both files stay small: the log starts afresh at 1 MB (the previous one is kept asprotokoll.alt.txt), the crash report at 256 kB.
These files are kept in the app's data folder on your PC and never leave it. When you uninstall Snowpane, Windows removes the app and these files.
4. No transmission, no tracking
Snowpane makes no internet connections and sends nothing to us or to third parties. There are no ads, no telemetry, no analytics services, no embedded advertising or statistics components and no user account. There is no automated decision-making or profiling.
5. Microsoft Store
Snowpane is distributed through the Microsoft Store. Downloads, installation, updates, ratings and – if there is a subscription later – purchases are handled by Microsoft, which is responsible for them under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. This also applies to error reports that Windows sends to Microsoft depending on your Windows diagnostic settings.
In Partner Center, Microsoft provides us with aggregated reports, for example numbers of downloads and installs, ratings, and crash statistics with technical details (such as the type of error and the Windows version). We do not receive users' names or email addresses. Store reviews are public and appear with the display name you chose with Microsoft; we may reply to them publicly.
6. Future subscription for "Natural weather"
"Natural weather" is a Pro feature and free for now. It is planned to be offered later as a subscription through the Microsoft Store. Purchase, billing and cancellation will then be handled by Microsoft; we never see payment details. To check whether a subscription is active, Snowpane will then ask the Microsoft Store through Windows and only learns whether a valid subscription exists. We will update this policy before that is introduced.
7. If you send us an email
We process your email address, your name (if given) and the content of your message in order to reply (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR if it concerns the app, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) – our interest in answering enquiries). We do not pass your message on. The mailbox is operated by Microsoft (Outlook.com), so emails are stored on Microsoft servers, possibly also in the USA. Microsoft is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. We delete emails once the enquiry is resolved, at the latest twelve months after the last contact, unless we are legally required to keep them.
If you choose to send us a log or crash report, please take a quick look first: it may contain your Windows user name in folder paths.
8. This website
This page sets no cookies and uses no JavaScript, no fonts or images from other servers and no tracking. The provider hosting this page (Cloudflare Pages by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA; Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework) processes technically necessary data such as IP address, time and browser identifier in server logs in order to deliver and protect the page. We do not analyse this data. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (secure provision of the page).
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. As we receive no data about you apart from emails, this usually concerns only your messages to us. Please write to paneworks.help@outlook.com.
You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority; in Austria this is the Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde (Austrian Data Protection Authority), Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna.
10. Changes
If anything about Snowpane changes that affects privacy (for example the subscription), we will update this policy and the date at the top.
